About this Destination

Kidepo lies in Uganda's far northeast, where the Narus and Kidepo valleys meet wide grasslands and rugged hills. Its distance from the usual western safari circuit makes the journey an important part of planning, whether you travel overland or arrange a flight.

Game drives explore grassland and bush country. Elephants, giraffes, buffalo, lions and ostriches occur in the park, but sightings depend on the route, season and conditions. There is plenty to take in between sightings: broad views, changing light and the scale of the valleys.

A Kidepo visit can also make room for locally arranged experiences beyond the park. Choose community-led activities with consent and clear arrangements, and confirm park activities, access and accommodation for your dates before setting out.

Game Drive

Explore park tracks with a guide in search of grassland wildlife. Routes depend on conditions and park guidance, and no particular animal sighting is guaranteed.

Cultural Village Visit

Ask about community-led visits in the wider Karamoja region. Arrange any visit with local hosts' consent, agree on expectations in advance and follow their guidance on photography.

Fly-in Safari

Air access via the park area may reduce overland travel. Confirm current flights or charter options, schedules, luggage limits and onward transfers before building an itinerary around them.
