About this Destination
Lake Mburo National Park brings together open grassland, patches of woodland and the lake's wetland edges. Zebra and antelope are a draw here, with buffalo, giraffes and many birds adding variety to a guided wildlife outing. What you see depends on the season, route and time of day.
The park can be a useful stop while travelling through western Uganda toward Bwindi. Rather than treating it only as a break in the drive, leave time for a game drive or a guided activity that lets you take in the smaller details of the landscape.
A walk, boat outing or horseback ride may be possible as part of your visit, subject to current park rules, operator schedules and conditions. We can help plan the stop around your wider itinerary and confirm what is available before you travel.

This stop can be part of a wider journey through western Uganda. We plan the order and pace around your chosen experiences and current road conditions, rather than assuming every transfer will take the same amount of time.
Explore journeysWhat to Do
Explore the grassland and woodland with a guide in search of zebra, antelope, buffalo, giraffes and birdlife. Routes and sightings depend on conditions; no particular species or encounter is guaranteed.
Where available, a guided horseback outing offers a different way to experience the open landscape. Check the current operator, riding requirements, route and availability before making it part of your plans.
A boat outing, when operating, gives you a view of the lake and its waterbirds. Hippos may also be seen; the route, departure times and sightings vary.
A guided walk can bring tracks, plants and birds into focus. Follow the ranger's advice on where walking is permitted and what is suitable on the day.
Ask about locally hosted community visits near the park if you would like to learn more about the surrounding area. Confirm hosts and arrangements ahead of time rather than assuming a visit is available.
Before You Go
Confirm current park fees, activity rules, guide arrangements and operator availability before booking. Road travel times depend on your starting point, traffic and conditions. Keep a safe distance from wildlife and follow your guide's instructions on walks and near the water.
