Travel insurance is required for all Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris journeys. Here is why, and what your policy must cover.
Travel insurance is a condition of travel on all Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris journeys. This is not optional, and it is not a formality. Uganda's medical infrastructure outside Kampala is limited. A medical evacuation by air to Nairobi or Johannesburg can cost between $20,000 and $80,000 depending on the situation, the aircraft required, and the destination hospital.
Being uninsured in a remote location is a situation we are not willing to share with our guests. We require documentation of your policy before final journey confirmation is issued.
Please confirm with your insurer that your policy covers the specific activities in your itinerary. Standard travel policies sometimes exclude the following:
If your standard policy excludes these, most insurers offer activity upgrades at a modest premium. Read your policy documents before you travel, not after.
We recommend purchasing your travel insurance at the time you pay your deposit, or shortly after. This gives you the maximum period of cancellation cover in case circumstances change before departure.
Policies purchased close to departure may not include cancellation cover for reasons that existed before the purchase date. Pre-existing medical conditions may require a specific declaration at the time of purchase.
We do not have commercial relationships with any insurance provider and do not earn referral fees. The following providers have been used by our guests and cover Uganda-based adventure travel:
These are not endorsements. Research which policy meets your specific needs, country of residence, and the activities in your itinerary.
Before your final journey confirmation is issued, you will be asked to provide your insurer's name, your policy number, and an emergency contact number for the insurer. We retain this information in case of emergency during your trip.
