Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris / Uganda

We know Uganda
by travelling it.

Bwindi House designs private Uganda journeys around the gorillas, then builds outward through forests, savannahs, mountains, communities and the roads connecting them.

Why travel with us
On the road / Field Journal

01 / Why the House exists

A gorilla encounter is a beginning, not the whole story.

For many travellers, Uganda is reduced to the trek. Arrive, photograph, leave. But the story runs deeper: forest sectors, gorilla families, rangers, porters, guides, lodges, communities and the daily work that keeps Bwindi alive.

Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris exists to tell that story properly. We are a private house of journey curators, field guides, lodge hosts, conservation partners and guests, brought together by a belief that a journey should be intimate, intelligent and rooted in the place it depends on.

We do not begin with a route. We begin with the reason you are coming.

02 / On the road

The road is part of the journey.

Uganda unfolds between destinations. A good route takes account of the hours between them: where to begin, where to pause and what the next morning asks of you.

01 / Route intelligence

The right forest entrance

Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, Nkuringo and Mgahinga do not make for interchangeable starting points. We plan around the right official permit and sector before placing the lodge or drawing the route.

02 / Route intelligence

A route with a rhythm

We sequence journeys to avoid unnecessary backtracking. Dates, travel time, activities, comfort and fitness shape the road as much as the destination does.

03 / Route intelligence

People who know the way

Uganda-based planning, trusted local guide support and carefully selected hosts help a private journey feel quietly held from arrival to departure.

03 / Uganda from the ground

There is more to see when you slow down.

The drive, the roadside stop, the first light, the evening stillness. Not distractions from the itinerary. Part of what makes it yours.

Some of the best parts of the journey happen between the pins on the map.

04 / The people behind the journey

The House is bigger than any one person.

Journey curators compose around your dates, permits, sectors and pace. Field guides read the road and interpret the encounter. Lodge hosts shape the evening and the following morning. Porters, community voices and conservation partners each hold part of the experience.

Guests of the House remain connected through the House Letter, House Ledger updates, field notes and future journey invitations. The journey does not end when you leave Uganda.

05 / Founded from inside the story

Built close to the journey, not far from it.

Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris was founded by Vincent Arihoruhanga, a Ugandan travel entrepreneur building a new standard for gorilla journeys from Kampala and western Uganda.

After studying how Uganda is sold to the world, Vincent saw what was missing: a deeper way to connect guests to the forest, the people and the meaning of the encounter. His role is not to make Bwindi louder. It is to make the journey clearer, more personal and more worthy of the place.

06 / Where the journey stops for the night

The right place changes the next day.

We choose stays for sector access, comfort, views and travel rhythm, not just a name on a list. A lodge should make sense geographically, feel connected to its landscape and allow the following morning to begin properly.

07 / Beyond the itinerary

A country we keep exploring.

Uganda is not a static catalogue of attractions. Routes, lodges, road conditions and activities evolve. We keep listening to local knowledge and evaluating how journeys work on the ground, so that a private route feels considered rather than copied.

08 / The House standard

Small by design. Serious by standard.

We are not built to move the most people through the forest. We are building journeys that respect its limits, use official permits and are clear about what guests can expect before they travel.

01

The forest comes first

Permits, group sizes, route design and guest behaviour must protect the encounter, not pressure it. A maximum of eight guests enter each gorilla group.

02

Local knowledge leads

Guides, porters, communities and local hosts carry knowledge no brochure can replace. Our planning is rooted in Uganda, close to the journeys we design.

03

Luxury means care, not excess

Privacy, preparation, pacing and comfort in the right places matter more than spectacle. We keep journeys private or small group.

04

Every journey accounts for itself

Pricing basis, inclusions, exclusions, permit conditions, cancellation rules and conservation commitments are explained before confirmation. Each journey enters the official gorilla conservation system and carries a transparent House contribution, published annually in the House Ledger.

09 / Before, during, after

Belonging has practical details.

A few simple House rituals help make the journey feel held.

I

Field Dossier

Before travel: permits, route, lodge, packing, fitness, sector and what to expect.

II

Forest Briefing

Before entering the forest: the rules, rhythm and meaning of the encounter.

III

Memory Record

After travel: a simple record of the route, encounters and conservation contribution connected to your booking.

IV

The House Letter

Updates from the forest, permit seasons, House Ledger notes, field stories and new journey openings.
