Overview
Uganda's western spine, composed into one elegant journey. River, savanna, crater lakes, chimpanzees and gorillas in one intelligent route. Nine days, one country, with Bwindi as the anchor.
The Great Western Arc is built by geography, not by hotel names. It moves from Entebbe to Murchison's Nile country, west to Kibale's forest, south through Queen Elizabeth and Ishasha, and into Bwindi for the gorillas. Each stop earns its place on the route.
Unlike Uganda's Iconic Five, this journey is not a rare-species checklist. It is a refined western circuit that alternates long travel days with meaningful wildlife and recovery time. The gorilla day remains the emotional anchor, and one dedicated naturalist guide carries the country story from arrival to departure.

Day
01/09
Lakeshore briefing and overnight
Arrive in Entebbe and meet your Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris representative. Overnight near the airport with a private briefing on the western route, park rhythm and gorilla permit timing.

Entebbe to Murchison Falls region
Begin the journey north-west toward Murchison Falls. The day is paced with comfort stops and guide interpretation as the country shifts from city edge to savanna and river country.

Murchison Falls NP
Explore Murchison Falls by boat and vehicle. The Nile gives the journey scale, with wildlife, river life and one of Uganda's great landscape moments before the route turns south-west.

Murchison region to Kibale
Travel south-west toward Kibale Forest. The route moves through rural western Uganda, crater country and tea landscapes before arriving at your forest lodge.

Kibale Forest NP
Enter Kibale Forest for chimpanzee tracking with experienced field guides. Afternoon options include Bigodi Wetland, crater views or slow lodge time depending on the pace of the morning.

Kibale to Queen Elizabeth / Ishasha
Continue toward Queen Elizabeth National Park and the southern savanna. Depending on season and routing, the day may include the Kazinga Channel, game viewing, or a movement toward Ishasha.

Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi, Buhoma
A final savanna morning before entering gorilla country. Arrive at Trackers Safari Lodge in the Buhoma sector for dinner and a private briefing before the trek.
Bwindi, Buhoma sector
After an early breakfast, report to the UWA briefing point for gorilla trekking. Trekking time depends on the family's overnight movement. Once located, spend one hour with the gorillas in the forest. Your guide and porter support you throughout.

Bwindi to Entebbe, road or fly-out
Return to Entebbe by road, or use a fly-out routing if quoted separately. Your Bwindi House Gorilla Safaris team supports onward travel arrangements.
