Yes, Nkuringo is one of the more strenuous sectors. It sits at roughly 1,900 to 2,300 metres and the trails are steep, often dropping into the valley before climbing back, so good fitness is important. Fitter walkers are rewarded with the most spectacular scenery and light in the park, and a porter is always available.

The standard trekking permit is USD 800 per person for foreign non-residents, the same as every Bwindi sector. The habituation experience is not offered in Nkuringo, only in Rushaga, so a Nkuringo trek is the standard one-hour visit with a fully habituated family.

Nkuringo is in the south of Bwindi, near Kisoro and Lake Mutanda. Most guests drive from Entebbe or fly to the Kisoro airstrip and transfer by road. Its position lets it combine naturally with a Lake Mutanda canoe and with Mgahinga's golden monkeys.
